If you want a good Easter this year, then you need to keep your smile in mind. In fact, you need to do what you can to keep your braces in tip-top shape. This is because if you don’t care for your appliance, you can run into orthodontic problems. You don’t want that, do you? So, our orthodontist, Dr. Merissa Blais, encourages you to have a good Easter with braces by doing the following things:
-Avoid chewy and sticky candies: This is recommended because chewy and sticky candies can damage the braces. This is because they can pull the brackets off the teeth and even bend and break the wires. These candies can also promote cavities, so it’s best to avoid them altogether.
-Wear a mouthguard: A mouthguard can help you avoid breaking your braces and teeth if you participate in a potentially intense and dangerous Easter egg hunt (we all know they exist, especially if money is involved). So, make sure to wear a mouthguard while you hunt for eggs so you can maintain a top-notch smile when you get hit in the face with elbows or get shoved into trees.
-Clean your smile and appliance: You should brush your teeth often, like after each time you eat, and floss and rinse at least once. If you can floss more often, like after you brush, do it. Brushing, flossing and rinsing can remove bacteria, sugar and other harmful substances before they can cause problems.
